Here is a collection of coloring pages of sharks. We have a nice collection of real and cartoon sharks, hammerheads and tiger sharks, and basically all kinds of sharks.

Sharks are a particular type of fish that have a very precise definition that separates them from other fish.

Sharks have a cartilaginous skeleton, 5-7 gill slits on their sides near their heads, and also have a distinctive fin arrangement, including pectoral fins.

Sharks date back more than 420 million years, which is older than most dinosaurs, let alone humans. In fact, sharks were around before there was any life on land and there weren't even very many plants.

The point is that sharks have been around for a long time, though all we know of the earliest sharks is learned from incomplete skeleton pieces.

Most sharks are cold-blooded, which means that their internal temperature matches that of the water surrounding them.

The great white shark and a few others, though, maintain a higher internal body temperature. Sharks breathe through their gills by taking oxygen out of the water.

It is a misconception that all sharks must keep moving or die - most can stay still, but then they have to pump water over their gills in order to continue breathing. Only a few species of sharks must swim endlessly in order to survive.

Sharks will occasionally attack humans swimming in the sea, but only from a few specific species: the great white, the oceanic whitelip, the tiger, and the bull shark. They do not generally go out of their way to attack people, but if someone is in the wrong place at the wrong time, they do stand the possibility of being eaten. There are between four and five fatal shark attacks every year.

This page is devoted to coloring pages of German superweapons of World War II. The image above shows German leader Adolf Hitler inspecting a massive artillery piece known as the Schwerer Gustav cannon. It moved on rail tracks and fired 7-ton shells from its 31.5-inch (80 cm) barrel to a distance of 29 miles (47 km). the Schwerer Gustav helped to win the battle of Sevastopol for the Germans and also was used against Leningrad.

Above, another German railroad gun after being captured in 1945. There are 22 Allied soldiers standing on it. The Germans actually planned even larger artillery pieces called the Landkreuzer P. 1500 Monster but never built them.

ME 163 Komet rocket plane.

The German Luftwaffe had many advanced planes that saw combat. One of them was the Messerschmidt ME-163 Komet rocket plane. It was faster than any Allied plane and was credited with shooting down some bombers in the last year of World War II.

V-2 Rocket.

The Germans were very advanced with rocket designs. They built and fired over 3,100 of their most advanced rockets, the V-2 vengeance weapon, against London and other targets. The V-2 was a deadly weapon that killed thousands of people. There was no defense against the V-2 other than defeating Germany.

Horten Ho-229.

The Luftwaffe had advanced jet engines and also plane designs that the Allies had never seen before. One of these was the Horten Ho-229, a jet-powered flying wing that flew several times in 1945. The Horten Ho-229 was a revolutionary concept that closely resembles the B-2 bomber that remains in service with the United States Air Force today. Like the B-2, it had stealth characteristics and other advanced features that were not matched for decades.

The German Navy (Kriegsmarine) developed advanced submarines that saw action late in World War II. The Type XXI submarine was huge and operated off of batteries while underwater. It only had to surface to run its diesel engines to recharge its batteries, then could go underwater again for lengthy periods of time. These submarines foreshadowed modern electric cars that also run off of batteries and only need to be recharged when the batteries run down. The most amazing thing about the Type XXI submarines was that, unlike all other submarines of World War II, they actually sailed faster underwater than on the surface due to their electric motors. U-2540, shown in the image, was one of the last Type XXI submarines built and was used by the post-war German Navy for decades after being refloated in the late 1950s. It literally was decades ahead of its time and remains on display at the Maritime Museum in Bremerhaven, Germany.

ME-262.

The Luftwaffe was the first air force to get a jet fighter into combat. this was the Messerschmidt ME-262, which had two jet engines and could outfly any other plane of World War II. The ME-262 entered service in 1944 and was a deadly threat to Allied bombers. Being faster than any Allied plane, the ME-262 could approach bombers from any direction and evade escorting fighters. While the Allies also developed jet engines and produced flyable jet aircraft that served in a defensive role, they were unable to get any jet aircraft into combat before World War II ended.

Panzer VIII Maus tank.

The Germans built very big tanks as World War II continued, including the Tiger tank and the King Tiger tank. The biggest tank that they completed was the superheavy Panzer VIII Maus tank. This behemoth designed by Ferdinand Porsche weighed 188 tons, over three times that of any tank then (or now). It mounted a 128 mm (5 in) main gun that was able to destroy any other tank of its time. The Maus came along too late to see service during World War II, but two were completed and one may have fired a few shells at the enemy before being destroyed to avoid capture.

V-1 flying bomb.

While overshadowed by its flashier companion the V-2 rocket, the V-1 flying bomb was actually deadlier. They killed over 6,000 people in Great Britain, primarily within London, about three times as many as the V-2. The V-1 was slower than the V-2 and fast Allied fighters could match their speed and "tip" them off course, but they also were much cheaper and quicker to build and thus, in a strategic sense, more useful. In fact, the Allies were so fearful of the V-1 that they tailored their military strategy after the D-Day landings around occupying their launching sites. The V-1 is the direct ancestor of modern cruise missiles that remain in use today.

Anime is Japanese animation, and what we present here are anime coloring pages free and downloadable.

It usually has a distinctive look, with anime characters showing round faces, straight hair, oversized eyes, tiny noses, and wearing traditional (western) garb.

Of course, there are special cases, and breaking the rules happens. But, usually, when the artist breaks one or two of the conventions, he or she respects all the others.

Girls are often drawn wearing short skirts, shorts, or maybe bell-bottoms, while guys wear a lot of ties and usually a jacket of some sort.

Being highly stylized, anime can invariably be distinguished from animation in other countries, though that may not be the intent of the artist.

Once you recognize the stylistic cues, you can always pick out anime from animation drawn in, let us say, a standard Disney style.

Almost as old as western animation, anime got its start in 1917 and proved to be an immediate hit. Today, anime appears everywhere in Japan, distributed both theatrically and on Japanese television.

There now are popular sites such as Crunchyroll where people outside Japan can view the latest anime, at about the same time as the Japanese themselves are first seeing it.

Anime is a highly prestigious occupation in Japan, and some of the top anime artists, such as Hayao Miyazaki, become virtual legends. However, talent is not restricted to the professional ranks, and kids can show astonishing anime talent.

A future anime artist...

There are over 430 anime production studios. Studio Ghibli and A-1 are leaders in theatrical and television anime, though there are plenty of contenders who would dispute that dominance. Studio Ghibli is often (to their chagrin) described as the 'Disney of Asia,' because that studio has cranked out animated feature films over the past few decades that are second to none in quality except, perhaps, in relation to some of Disney's own finest product.

Anime is no longer just Japanese entertainment. There are now even non-Japanese studios that emulate the anime style, though they are better characterized as anime-influenced than as pure anime. Within Japan, television anime is exceedingly popular, and it is quite hard for the artists to crank out high-quality products every week for weeks on end. Typically, there will be a production line, where one senior artist sketches in the first and last pictures of a scene, and then another artist fills in the interim pictures, and then those are worked up to television quality by a sequence of other artists layering on their talent. Anime is highly labor-intensive and quite personalized to the artists who create it.

This is an introductory sample to anime, featuring some well-drawn and sometimes famous characters. There are so many anime productions that trying to be comprehensive would take thousands of pages. Instead, we have a few characters from top anime such as 'Sailor Moon' and may get more specific on other pages.
